What job on the police force suits me?

I want something more exciting then a traffic cop because I'm the kind of guy that gets to restless to sit around and do the same thing all day. But I also don't want to deal with a lot of drugs, the idea of running around having to deal with doped up junkies doesn't appeal to me. Right now I'm thinking about trying to become a plainclothes officer. What type of job would have me responding to heart attacks but occasionally land me in a sticky situation like a car chase or gun fight. Mainly I want a job that will actually help people, and save people's lives. Not have me handing out tickets.
